Rapid Russians - G-Drive Racing Top the Times Again in FP2
It's two out of two practice sessions for G-Drive Racing as Vergne, Rusinov and Pizzitola top the times at the end of free practice two.
In a repeat of the morning's action, Russian LMP2 team G-Drive Racing claimed the top spot in the second ELMS free practice session at Silverstone. The 1:45.490 set by the #26 Oreca-07 put them well over half a second clear of their nearest rivals - the #21 Dragonspeed in the hands of Henrik Hedman, Ben Hanley and Nicolas Lapierre. All three LMP2 manufacturers made an appearance in the top five at the end of the session. Aside from the two Orecas in first and second, a pair of Dallaras in the form of Cetillar Villorba Corse and SMP Racing finished third and fourth fastest, while the #32 Ligier JSP217 of United Autosports finished off the top five.
In LMP3, it was the all British team, 360 Racing setting the pace. The #6 Ligier JSP3 in the hands of Terrence Woodward, Ross Kaiser and the aptly named James Swift set a 1:57.179, just three tenths ahead of the #2 United Autosports Ligier in second place. The #17 Ultimate car of Mathieu Lahaye, Jean-Baptiste Lahaye and Francois Heriau was the highest placed Norma, finishing fourth fastest with a time of 1:57.749.
Just one of this morning's top three LMGTE runners featured in the top three this afternoon - the #86 Gulf Racing Porsche, having barely had the opportunity to cool down after the WEC practice session (kudos to Ben Barker, Michael Wainwright and Alex Davison for running both the 4 and 6 Hours of Silverstone this weekend) finished third fastest behind the #88 Proton Competition Porsche of Giorgio Roda, Gianluca Roda and Matteo Cairoli - who set a fastest time of 1:59.474, and the #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari of Duncan Cameron, Matt Griffin and Aaron Scott.
Qualifying tomorrow kicks off at 11.10 for the GTE cars, 11.25 for LMP3 and 11.40 for LMP2. The 4 Hours of Silverstone will begin at 14.30 and will be streamed live on the ELMS YouTube channel.
